SIKKIM TOUR ( ITINERARY )


Day - 01 NJP/Bagdogra to Gangtok

Our representative cordially receives you on arrival at Siliguri (NJP Rly Station / Bagdogra IXB) and helps you to board the car.
We drive to Gangtok along the NH 31A. The landscape changes dramatically as we leave Siliguri and run through the dense forests Mahananda Wild Life Sanctuary, the natural play ground of wild elephant, tiger and deer. Now you reach at Sevok just at the base of the hills. See the gorgeous view of Tista river as it comes out from the deep gorge of the Himalayas and spreads itself in the vast plains on North Bengal. Now the journey follows the winding roads along the meandering emerald green River Tista. Spend some time on some scenic spots on the way to enjoy the landscape. Gangtok the capital town of Sikkim the earlier Himalayan Kingdom welcomes you with its typical traditional Hospitality.
We assist you to check in at hotel. evening and short walk around The Mall to enjoy the typical Hill City life of Gangtok in the twilights. Car Service Till drop at Hotel.

Day - 02 Gangtok City tour

Today after breakfast we take you to a full day city tour in and around Gangtok. Visit Government Institute of Cottage Industry (Closed on Sunday, 2nd Saturday) where beautiful souvenirs like carpets, hand carved tables (choktses), traditional handcrafts, furniture, hand looms carpets and other products are produced & exhibited for sale. Visit Orchid House to see or buy some rare orchids and ornamental plants. We also take you to Sikkim Research Institute of Tibetology, which holds world's largest collection of books and rare manuscripts on the subject of Mahayana Buddhism plus many religious works of art and incredibly finely executed silk embroidered Thangkas (paintings). Just beside the institute is the Dodurl Chorten encircled by 108 prayer wheels built by late Trulsi Rimpoche in 1945-46. This is one of the most important and biggest stupas found in Sikkim.
Now we take you to the most important religious place of Sikkim – The Rumtek Dharma Chakra Center, 24kms from Gangtok. Built in 1960 by His Holiness the late 16th Gyalwa Karmapa it is a replica of the original Kagyurpa Monastery in Tsurphu, Tibet, the seat of His Holiness the Gyalwa Karmapa Rinpoche, head of the Karmapa sub sect of Kargyudpa order of Tibetan Buddhism. It now functions as the headquarters of the Dharma Chakra Religious Centre. Walk to the Shri Nalanda Institute for Higher Buddhist Studies just adjacent to the Monastery Building. While coming back from Rumtek visit Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Garden with well tended tropical and temperate plants and orchids. Stop for a while at the Shanti View Point to enjoy the panoramic view of the Gangtok valley. Back to Hotel for lunch.
After lunch have a free afternoon or optional visit to 3 famous view points at Tashi view point, Ganesh Tok and Hanuman Tok from where you can see the panoramic view of entire Gangtok town and valley along with the magnificent Kunchenjungha can be seen. Visit to the temple at Honuman Tok to offer prayer and return to hotel.
(Recommended afternoon activities: Leisure evening walk along the quiet ridge park road and enjoy the beauty of the hills.

Day 03 Gangtok - Lachung

Start early for our long and spectacular drive to Lachung (125km-6-7hrs drive). As we depart from Gangtok, we stop at Tashi View Point for views of mountains and the town. Along the way, pass through Kabi Lungtsok, Naga Waterfall, Seven Sisters Waterfall, so named because it comprises seven separate cascading segments and arrive at Chungthang village. Our ride through the lower Himalayas into the upper ridges of the Himalayas is breathtaking as we pass through many waterfalls that dot this scenic route and vegetation and climate changes rapidly as you ascend up the narrowing road. Chungthang is a small town surrounded by high mountains and is located at the confluence of Lachen and Lachung Chu(rivers). According to legend Chungthang was the meeting place of Guru Rimpoche and Lepcha Chieftain Thekung Tek. The region is predominately a Lepcha area. From here the road bifurcates for the Lachen and Lachung valleys and we take the western road to Lachen. Lunch will be served at Namok (A Wayside Inn). Arrive in Lachung by evening. Lachung means a high pass and it's township is located at an alt of 2735m. The area has been opened only recently and it is also the base for trekking and mountaineering expeditions. (zero point will be char extra you can talk directly with driver)
Overnight in best available lodge (simple guest houses with basic amenities are found here).

Day - 04 Lachung - Yumthang Valley Excursion – Lachung

After breakfast depart for Yumthang, about 25kms away from Lachung, through picturesque landscapes filled with various types of rhododendrons and various species of orchids which bloom in different color and so it is rightfully called the valley of flowers. Yumthang valley is near the tree line, with yaks grazing and its meadows are carpeted with flowers against the backdrop of towering peaks that appear to touch the skies. Depending on the weather conditions, we will spend time walking and enjoying the landscape.

Day - 05 Lachung to Gangtok

After breakfast drive back to Gangtok.

Day - 06 Gangtok Tsomgo Lake & Baba Mandir

After a heavy breakfast we take you to famous Tsongo Lake at 12000 ft.(3600M). We start at 8.30 AM in the morning from hotel. You have whole day to enjoy snow and Yak ride at the scenic high altitude alpine lake near Indo-Tibet border. The 1 km long and 15m deep lake is considered sacred to the local people. The pristine clear water remains frozen during winter. Have fun with snow and enjoy exciting Yak ride around the lake. Back to Hotel by 2.30 PM for lunch and have a leisure afternoon or roam around the market for personal activities. (Optional trip for Indian tourists to legendary Baba Mandir and Nathula Pass on Indo - China borer.
Nathu La Pass to Republic of China is nearly 20 kilometers further and is an optional tour. Prior permission is required to visit Nathula Pass. Extra cost applies for extended tour to Nathula. Recommended activities - Take a ride to Rope way or go for a helicopter Joy Ride over the Himalayas. Evening visit to M G Marg, the busy market of Gangtok, for shopping and having Sikkimese delicacy at the local restaurant.

Day - 07 Gangtok – Namchi

After breakfaest drive to pelling on the way visit only Tea garden TEMI TEA Garden, visit SAMDRUPTSE, CHAAR DHAM and lunch at Namchi.after lunch proceed to pelling.stay ON at pelling.

Day - 08 Namchi to Bagdogra airport drop.
